- HOK’s Mandarin Oriental Moscow
I thought I’d share with you all the fantastic news that HOK London has won the commission to design Russia’s most exclusive and luxurious hotel, a part of the luxury Mandarin Oriental Hotel chain. This five-star development will be located in a 19th Century house on Tverskaya Road – Moscow’s equivalent to London’s Oxford Street.
The historic building housing the hotel was originally constructed as a private manor house. Two of the historic facades will be retained, along with listed rooms on the ground and first floors. The hotel’s interior features a contemporary approach on a Faberge egg – a streamlined, spherical vessel cascading into the central atria similar to a waterfall.
The 250-room ‘upside-down’ hotel invites customers to check-in at the sky lobby level, giving visitors incredible views over Red Square and the Kremlin.
Our London Head of Hospitality, Vance Thompson said: “This project is a fantastic opportunity to work with a listed building in one of the world’s most prestigious retail addresses. This luxury brand offers HOK the opportunity to create a contemporary modern building with a multitude of uses. The success of the project is based upon affording all rooms a unique view, an unrivalled customer experience and creating synergy between the hotel facilities and luxury retail.”
Following completion of the concept design, HOK will begin work on the project schematics and design and development stages. Construction is scheduled to begin on site toward the end of 2009 and the hotel is scheduled to open in 2011.
